POLISH AND SLAVIC FOLKLORE IN JEWELRY
HISTORY
"Babusia" is a folk and bohemian jewelry brand that embodies the Polish and Slavic soul.
It was created in 2018 in the Hauts-de-France region, where the Polish imprint is still very present.
Babusia" is pronounced babouchia and means granny in Polish.
The brand tells my story, my Polish origins, the colorful memories of my childhood but also my journeys to Poland and Slavic lands imbued with mystery and discovery.
All the jewelry woven with "delicas" beads (small, regular Japanese glass beads) is original, handmade and unique.
It's a long process that begins with reflection, studies, drawings, choice of technique and colors, and ends with weaving. Hours, days and even weeks of
work.
The "Babusia" brand prefers quality to quantity, opting for the "handmade" approach and proposing modest production.
ITS CREATOR, VIRGINIE
I studied Fine Arts for a year and then went on to study Visual Arts and Audiovisual.
The quest for my origins was the subject of a documentary film in 2010.
This artisanal work is a continuation of my efforts to revive Slavic folklore and soul.
I've been working with pearls since I was a child, but I've switched from rocailles to delicas, which allow me to weave my designs with greater precision. I use the rocailles for embroidery on fabric.
In this way, I weave the threads of my family heritage into jewelry with bright, flowery motifs, inspired by Zalipie, a very famous village in Poland. The "Babushka" collection elegantly revisits Russian dolls in art deco style, while the "Folk Dolls" and "Krakowiak (Folk Dancers)" collections offer precious, high-end jewelry.
Each collection is a mosaic of memories: wreaths of flowers in hair, Polish folk costumes, and the matryoshkas I've collected.
Each piece of jewelry is a unique ode to my cultural heritage, a precious and poetic story to wear.
